Named after the champ bouillant, or post-rainstorm torrential waters that cascade down its slopes, ChambolleMusigny is the smallest commune in Burgundy’s Côte du Nuits sub-region and one of its most cherished. But that is the only small feature about this distinguished vineyard-village which enjoys – and had earned – a deserved reputation for fine wines.
Focused almost entirely on Pinot Noir production, ChambolleMusigny is famous for producing wines that reflect the perfect combination of power and finesse. They are accompanied by an ever-so-slight but respected production of white wine, created from the Chardonnay that grows in the Musigny grand cru in the village’s southern segment. While in demand, no white wine is included under the ChambolleMusigny appellation.
The soil in the region is more chalky than laden with clay, and features a top layer of silt. Climate is typically continental, balancing sugar and acidity levels within the wines. Top Producers: Domaine Comte de Vogüé, Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier
