Bordeaux Banks

The land, grapes grown, and classification systems of Bordeaux’s Right and Left Banks are completely different, and yet still considered part of one larger appellation. It helps to learn the differences if you want to know what’s in the bottle when you buy fine wine. On the left, you have the Medoc appellations, Cabernet Sauvignon based reds, (oft blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and possibly Malbec and Petite Verdot) and Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blends for white wines, as well as Sauternes, those sweet botrytized dessert wines.
