The Life of Riesling
This much loved grape is most known for making fine wines in Germany, but it was in fact the Romans who first brought it to the Mosel Valley. The first evidence of a German wine cellar is from 330 AD, so the country has had quite some time to perfect their craft! The first record of Riesling is from 1435, but with the spelling of Riesslingen, but it was Hieronymus Bosch who rallied the current spelling. By 1850 the variety was used for wines that went for more than Bordeaux! Read on for more about how Riesling became the star it is today.
