Tempranillo: Essential Facts
You probably think Rioja when you think Tempranillo, but it is a grape featured in all corners of Spain, like Ribera del Duero. It can vary wildly, from light and less tannic to potent and heady. The grape tends to ripen earlier than other varieties in Spain, which led to its name--Tempranillo comes from tempranillo, the Spanish word for early.
