Sangiovese Love

It is the most grown grape of Italy, mostly in Tuscany. For such a prolific grape it is often misunderstood or simply not known by many. Randall Restiano, the beverage director of Eataly NYC Flatiron broke down why he wants “my life devoted to Sangiovese”. He wants those of us who think of it as a wine that shows up in a straw basket in the form of not-so-great Chianti to appreciate the grape’s marvelous ability to showcase its terroir. What fine wine should we look to as supreme examples? Restiano starts with Radda in Chianti and Montalcino, citing examples like producers Soldera and Manetti as go-tos. He also gets into what to eat with Sangiovese and what the future of the grape at Eataly will be.
