You are probably familiar with the fine Italian red wines that go by the names of Barolo and Barbaresco, but how much do you know about the grape they are made of? Nebbiolo makes some of the best wines in Italy that can age for years. Despite their paler garnet color, Nebbiolo-based wines have very high tannins, one of the elements that contribute to wine's longevity and ability to improve after years in bottle. 85 percent of the world’s plantings of Nebbiolo are in Piemonte, home to the aforementioned Barolo and Barbaresco.
