Latour History

Chateau Latour, a Bordeaux First Growth, has a fascinating history, and some of the wines that were a part of it are going to auction Thursday. The French auction is set to sell a lot they are calling "Latour En Guerre", or "Latour at War" with wines from 1938-1945. 

During the war, Bordeaux was part of the area in France to be occupied by Germany, which actually created good business for the producers. The vintage of 1943 was good, but the vintage of 1945 goes down as one of the best. The lot is predicted to go for 5500-8800 dollars. Also going to sale are other exciting Bordeaux and Burgundy lots and an acclaimed Northern Rhone offering--a bottle of Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle fro 1961 that may fetch as high as $11,000!
