The 1985 Sassicaia Search

The 1985 Sassicaia Search

by Westgarth Wines May 01, 2018

Sassicaia had been admired from its beginning in 1968, but 1985 was a banner year in which the fine red wine received a perfect 100 points from critic Robert Parker. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, the Super Tuscan also received a perfect score upon review in 1996 and 2016. The sad thing about a perfect vintage is that eventually the last bottle will be enjoyed, and there will never be another quite like it. Those willing to pay will have to search a little harder to locate one and beware of counterfeit bottles, but those with the means will be rewarded with a wine that has held up like no other.
