Italy's Harvest Looks Hopeful
Heat plagued much of Italy this year. Each month had brief periods of extreme heat, but never fear, the end results were still excellent--good news if you are looking to Barolo to purchase fine wine. The key to the vines still producing quality was an autumn that blessed vineyards with cooler evenings, mitigating the daytime temperatures. While the quality remained high, the hot vintage was not without consequences--many producers have reported smaller yields. Also, hail storms ravaged parts of the Piedmont, reducing crops further. Still, the end results from Aglianico to Nebbiolo varieties are hopeful!
