Heidsieck Comeback

Heidsieck Comeback

by Westgarth Wines October 30, 2019

Stephen Leroux took the reins at Charles Heidsieck Champagne house in 2012, and has been hard at work bringing it back into the spotlight ever since. Heidsieck is a name that has a following from those working in wine, but is lesser known by the consumers who buy premium wine. Leroux has the pedigree to get the job done, having worked at Bollinger and Louis Roederer. Since his tenure the brand has increased their scope and amount of sales in the US as well as the UK, Scandinavia and Holland. His plan is to double sales within the next ten years. Along with sales there will be some luxury upgrades to the current production. The brand's prestige cuvée, "Champagne Charlie" will be rebooted--Leroux says the first blend will be disgorged in the next three or four years. He also plans to start making a "Coteaux Champenois", a still red wine. The warmer climate has made it possible to ripen grapes enough for high quality still wines and Leroux wants to showcase their Pinot Noir. Heidsieck is a Champagne house to watch...and drink!
