Burgundy Update

by Westgarth Wines April 24, 2020

There is a new Bourgogne appellation! It is the ‘Bourgogne Côte d’Or’ and while introduced in 2017, it is just now gaining traction. In terms of quality, the appellation is meant as a stepping stone from the generic “Bourgogne” wines, which means the wines could come from anywhere, and the village wines that are labeled for the individual village they come from, such as Gevrey-Chambertin, or Chambolle-Musigny. The Côte d’Or encompasses both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, and the new appellation allows blending of grapes from both.
