Burgundy Is Back
After a couple of challenging vintages with small yields, 2017 was a return to healthy-sized harvests in Burgundy. That’s good news for those who buy fine wine, as it may help put a stop to the price acceleration the region has experienced in the last few years. It was a long growing season without excess warmth giving grapes time to ripen without sacrificing freshness. Grégory Patriat, winemaker at Jean-Claude Boisset, has declared the year “classic for whites” and “fruit-forward” for the reds. It is a vintage that is approachable now, but has the power to age well—time to buy a few bottles for now, and some to return to in coming years!
