A New Classic Port

After a five year hiatus, 2017 marks the second year in a row that a classic vintage has been declared in Port. Many factors may be at play to explain the success. There was the perfect weather and the small but mighty crop, but one can also look to the changes in modern Port practices—attention to picking date, grape varieties used, and what brandy is added to fortify the base wine all helped bring about this year’s batch which is being called more muscular than the 2016.
