Auction Sales Soar
The 2017 year was good for auctions, with profits up 12.7 percent. The numbers come from markets in the US, UK, Hong Kong and online, for a total of $381.7 million. Burgundy continues to be a driving force, with Domaine Romanée-Conti selling for record amounts. Bordeaux and Screaming Eagle also made strong showings. The desire for bottles with pristine provenance is a factor behind the sales, a sign that those that buy fine wine want to have their wine and drink it, too.
