Dom Perignon: Behind the Fine Wine Label

by Westgarth Wines April 10, 2018

Like all fine wines, there is a story behind the famed Dom Perignon, the famed bubbly regarded by many as the height of Champagne elegance. Many don’t realize that Dom Perignon is not a brand, but a cuvée made by one. Moët & Chandon has been making this blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir since the 1920’s, although it was named for a monk who did much to improve Champagne in the 17th century. It cannot be labeled as a Grand Cru because some of its grapes come from premier cru vineyards, but that doesn’t diminish its shine—Princess Diana enjoyed it at her wedding and if its good enough for a princess, its good enough for us!
